Pagani Zonda C12

Posted by Dennis Ramilo on August 28th, 2008

This is one of those cars that can easily be categorized as “dream cars” in more ways than one. It’s a dream for most people, including yours truly, because it’s unreachable financially, hence we dream about it. We also dream about it because it’s an engineering marvel, it’s a super car, and who wouldn’t want to have one? Last, we dream about owning one because of the prestige it brings.

The Zonda is right there with the Ferrari’s, the Lamborghini’s, and the Maserati’s. It has the looks, and without question, it has the speed and power. To go with this overabundance of sheer power, it has excellent handling and powerful brakes. It also has a price tag that can only be met by the privileged few.

Less than 4 seconds, that’s how short it takes for the Pagani Zonda C12 to move from 0 to 100 km/h. It has a lightweight body made of Kevlar-reinforced carbon fiber. It uses the Mercedes Benz V12 engine, made lighter by replacing the composition of some parts with titanium. The lucky driver of this car has at his command 555 horsepower, more than enough to satisfy even race car drivers. This car is one powerful ride, and a beauty to look at too. “Zonda” is a word for the wind in the Andes. Does this mean that this car can move like the wind? With that much power, and with an aerodynamically-influenced design, this car just might.

There’s no doubt that the Pagani Zonda is an excellent machine. For the few who has one, and even to those who’ve seen one in live action; lucky you. Most people won’t probably see a Zonda up close and personal.

Land Rover - 2008 Range Rover

Posted by Dennis Ramilo on August 27th, 2008

The general consensus is that the Range Rover is the best in its class in terms of performance, both on and off the road, and luxury. Praises abound in several car review websites for this SUV. It would have been perfect except that there are some concerns on its fuel-economy and Land Rover’s reliability.

It’s hard to believe that a vehicle designed for dirt roads and uneven terrain can be so luxurious. But the Range Rover is that, it has the interior of a luxury car. It fact, some have claimed that you can drive the Rover everywhere as long as its wheels touch the ground. Back on the city, you can maneuver the Rover on expensive neighborhoods without it being out of place. How’s that for an SUV?

The appeal of the Range Rover to road drivers and car owners is largely because of its opulent interior. There’s plenty of space inside that legroom and headroom is not a problem. The materials used in the design of the cabin are topnotch. It features terrific handling, braking, and engine performance.

Not to be outdone by its interior, the exterior is quite sporty and very fashionable that it deserves credit too. After all, a car has to have something on the outside to draw potential buyers to take a peek inside. Needless to say, there’s a lot to be desired with the Range Rover exterior design.

Engine power is enough to please regular drivers. There’s an option for a better one, a more powerful V8, for those who want more power. You have to pay extra though. But for people who can afford to buy a Range Rover at its base price, there’s a very small probability that they can’t shoulder the added cost. In fact, most reviews suggest taking the engine upgrade; it should make the Land Rover’s Range Rover even more remarkable and outstanding.

The New Porsche Cayenne

Posted by Dennis Ramilo on August 26th, 2008

The 2008 Porsche Cayenne offers one of the most comfortable and luxurious interior found in an SUV. The 2008 model also boasts a redesigned exterior, making it a lot sexier and sportier than previous models. Although the base engine is a wee bit underpowered, there’s an option for a bigger and better engine which should take care of the need for more speed and power. It has an attractive handling mechanics and its off-road capabilities are something any off-roader can be proud off.

The sticker price could be a possible turn-off, especially if you’re planning on having the more powerful V8 engine and all the extra options available. But this is a Porsche, and that should give it the right merit to command its current price. With its exterior redesign, we are treated with an SUV that looks as great as any of its competitors. The base engine is not as powerful as some expected, but it should do for normal driving circumstances. The V8 engine upgrade costs about $50,000, a steep price to some, while others may find it a good investment to make.

Inside, the driver and passengers will be treated to a very comfortable interior. Leathers abound, and the entertainment system can please maybe everyone, from kids to adults alike. The Cayenne is a family SUV and a good one at that if you have no qualms at paying its slightly higher-than-the-usual-SUV price tag. There’s plenty of comfort to go around, plenty of high-tech gadgets to play with. Its safety features are outstanding. It hasn’t been crash tested yet, but with six airbags and hi-tech features like Porsche Stability Management, it’s obvious that the well-being of everyone inside were well-thought of.

Mercedes Benz G

Posted by Dennis Ramilo on August 25th, 2008

The first major reason why this SUV from world-renowned automakers Mercedes Benz is rated quite low is its price tag. Most car buyers say, including several car reviewers, that this vehicle is too expensive.

The G-Class SUV looks unique. To some, it’s a good look. To others, it’s too distinct, too boxy. Off the road, this vehicle excels. It can venture virtually anywhere that an SUV can. It’s good on back roads, dirt roads, rocky roads, or even on places where there are no roads. On the road, however, its performance dips, or plunges, depending on your expectations for an $85,000 – $110,000 SUV.

Many test drivers indicate that the Mercedes Benz G is too bouncy for comfort. Acceleration is poor too. It moves heavily, and it is difficult to maneuver on tight spots. Furthermore, it doesn’t offer side airbags, something that’s being offered by other SUV’s in the market.

If we overlook its price and on-road performance though, this SUV might score highly with its lavish interior. It’s great inside, even if you remove the many electronic gadgets that are present in the base model. Everything but the kitchen sink are added. Some features being offered as options on other SUV’s are already in the Mercedes Benz G-Class, without extra cost.

This is the SUV of choice for nature trips, camping on the woods, going fishing somewhere remote, or just about anywhere that involves considerable rough driving. The suspension is tuned for bumpy roads, and it does its job magnificently. It’s roomy, comfy, and it has adequate power. Sadly, the G-Class just doesn’t perform well on the road.

2008 Porsche Boxster

Posted by Dennis Ramilo on August 19th, 2008

The Porsche Boxster is the Cayman’s convertible twin brother. Nearly every major car review websites gave this car high ranking, and rightly so. This car hugs the road so well and the luxurious interior could please even the pickiest drivers. The reason for its excellent ranking is its balance. Not balance on the road, although it excels in that category too, but the way it balances power, luxury, and on-the-road performance.

Here is a car that looks good, feels good, and drives good. Seldom do we see cars like this. Often, some cars give an inch of this to gain an inch of that, but the Boxster is different. There are no trade offs. Inside and out, this car excels, and the price is just right too. The exterior design is typical Porsche, flashy and sporty. The interior, though it may not be as luxurious as that of more expensive cars, is designed perfectly. Its V6 engine may not be the most powerful but combined with this car’s excellent handling and suspension, it can provide an enjoyable ride.

This car is without flaws though. Cabin noise becomes hard to tolerate at high speeds. A more powerful V6 engine is available but it comes with an added cost of $800. For Porsche buyers however, $800 may not be that hard to shoulder considering that this is a Porsche car that carries its manufacturer’s reputation. This Porsche Boxster is a great car all in all.

The Audi S8

Posted by Dennis Ramilo on August 18th, 2008

The Audi S8 is a 4-door, 5-passenger sedan that packs some nice visual touches, both inside and out, and a V10 engine capable of spewing a maximum of about 450 horsepower. It’s been made sportier and more powerful than its previous versions. When before, the Audi S8’s exterior looked a bit understated and not distinctive, this year’s version is sportier and is given a better-looking “chin” that almost makes it exude confidence. Buyers who passed up on the later versions of the Audi S8 (because they lack flair) may need to look at it hard now. It’s got flash and a more powerful engine.

Inside, drivers and their passengers will be treated to a very luxurious cabin built for comfort. Anyone not comfortable inside may never find comfort in any car because the S8’s first class cabin is one of the best. Excellent choice of materials and ample legroom and headroom make rides on the S8 very remarkable. Of course, the suspension deserves some of the credit too; it helps in giving the car its smooth drive on the road.

There are a few points to mention though that should be useful to potential buyers. Although the S8 can be fast, some cars of its class may be faster. Also, while no one is disagreeing that the Audi S8’s look is a major improvement from previous versions, some other cars may be more visually appealing. Although it’s fine the way it is now, this car could use a few more tweaks to compete against premium Mercedes Benz and BMW sedans. These, though, are minor details that shouldn’t affect the excellent on-the-road experience that an S8 can give.

2008 Maybach 57

Posted by Dennis Ramilo on August 15th, 2008

Maybach has been known to making remarks that their main competitors are luxury yachts. With the new 57, people are beginning to believe that it’s true. This highly luxurious car is an excellent example of a first class ride. It’s a high profile corporate jet on wheels. It looks good inside and out. The exterior design is very Maybach, and this distinctive feature adds to this car’s appeal. It has a very classy look that seems to act like a badge of honor that says to everyone “Hey, I’m a Maybach, there are very important people inside me so give way.”

Unlike many cars that trade some engine power off for a more luxurious cabin, the Maybach 57 maintains its poise on the road by delivering an excellent performance. The engine, a 6.0L V12, is very powerful. While cruising, you’ll never guess that this car is quite heavy with the way its engine is propelling it on the road. You’ll also swear that it feels light as a 2-door speeder by how easy its brakes rein it in. The air suspension system can also be adjusted to suit your preferred driving experience, from soft to sporty.

First class doesn’t come cheap, hence the price tag of the Maybach 57. But in evaluating the car’s quality with its cost in mind, critics believe that it’s worth every dime. Sure, only rich guys can afford one, but it’s still one heck of a car. Some of us may never own one. In fact, many may never have the opportunity to see one close up and personal. But it’s free to dream. If you dream of having a Maybach, you’re not far away from wanting only the best.

Mercedes Benz CL

Posted by Dennis Ramilo on August 14th, 2008

Mercedes Benz, makers of fine automobiles, has once again proven its mettle with the CL Series. This handsome car is everything anyone can ever want. If you want power, Mercedes Benz offers 4 powerful engines to choose from. All that’s left to do is choose the best one suited for your needs and you’re set. This option probably gave the CL Series an added advantage in the market. After all, cars are often judged by how well they can cater to the drivers’ preferences.

If you want luxury to go with power, the Mercedes Benz CL has one of the most luxurious cabin ever. This 2-door sedan offers high-end materials, great interior design, and an assortment of high-tech gadgets like the harman/kardon® audio system. Car reviewers note that the interior is fantastically comfortable. It offers plenty of legroom for the front seats while the rear seats have enough to satisfy most individuals. Headroom is a bit limited, though, because of the low roof line.

That low roof line however adds to the great looks of the Mercedes Benz CL. It makes this car very sporty-looking. The exterior design is praised by many, drivers, passengers, onlookers, and reviewers alike. So, what’s not to like with the Mercedes CL? Aside from its nearly 200k price tag, I don’t know of any.

Maserati Quattroporte

Posted by Dennis Ramilo on August 13th, 2008

The Maserati Quattroporte is probably one of the best looking luxury sedans out in the market. Its classic design looks clean and smooth giving this car a very polished, professional look. There are leathers aplenty inside, hand-stitched to give its interior that natural feel. The luxurious cabin offers a level of comfort that’s quite rare, something that most cars can only dream of having. Finally, there’s a Ferrari engine under the hood, a 4.5liter V8, giving it the power to back its good looks.

Almost every major car reviewers agreed that this car looks sexy and very much refined. For people who think that it’s not all about the looks, it’s also important to note that the handling dynamics and the braking system are graded as excellent. Of course, its V8 engine offers ample power to propel this car to unbelievable speeds. Not as fast as true sports cars, mind you, but just enough to be considered as “fast”. After all, the engine is from Ferrari, so it’s expected that the Maserati Quattroporte can run fast.

If there is a flaw somewhere, then it’s probably in its virtually limited cargo space capacity. Also, some hardcore drivers may find its engine a bit lacking. But all in all, this car deserves all the good things said about it. Additionally, its fuel economy is, though not the best, not bad at all. This is a car that you can ride with pride, anywhere you want to go.

Maserati Gran Turismo

Posted by Dennis Ramilo on August 12th, 2008

This is the car that made Maserati famous again. It’s drop-dead sexy with its unique and very distinctive front, a curvaceous body fit for a supermodel, and a stylish back, a bonus view perhaps for the drivers of cars you’ll overtake with this hotrod. There will be plenty, believe me. The Maserati Gran Turismo’s powerful V8 engine is capable of producing over 400 horsepower, more than you’ll ever need to zoom ahead of most cars. Its combination of head-turning looks and jaw-dropping speed make this car a hot commodity.

On the road, only a few cars can match the Maserati Gran Turismo’s superb handling. Do you usually go through a zigzagging road? Or maybe you’re one of those always looking for shortcuts, dodging from corner to corner? Good news because this car is so smooth you’ll have no trouble with turns. Complementing its handling dynamics is its sumptuous interior. Some cars might have more beautiful overall designs, but the Gran Turismo stands out thanks to its professionally hand-stitched surfaces.

There’s a big BUT however, and it has something to do with the price tag. Several online reviews didn’t put the Maserati Gran Turismo on top because, even though they like the car a lot, they believe it should offer more to justify its price. To Maserati’s credit though, they designed this car quite wonderfully that it’s generally well-liked. Its cost could be overlooked by connoisseurs. A sexy car like this doesn’t come cheap, after all.
